leave her behind with the kids —
THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
Does anything in this hotel ever stay put? Those who go looking for the gym, the hotel spa, or the nightclub are out of luck one day, as they're simply no longer there. The hallways themselves go topsy-turvy, only staying put when one looks directly at them. For those who've been here long enough to have seen the last time the hotel shifted like this and remember how unhelpful the hotel staff were — it seems little there has changed. The only difference is the manner in which they are useless. They will acknowledge the shifting hallways, of course, and even provide direction back to the lobby, but profess they are much too busy to provide an escort.
Eventually, the hallways settle. Gone are The Caucus-Race, the Pearls Within, and the Rabbit Hole in favor of new amenities. Where once there was a gym, there's now an indoor playground. The nightclub has been replaced with an arcade, and the spa is now a massive movie theater. Were there always quite so many kids items on the restaurant menus? When did This Elegant Thimble get such a large children's section?
If asked, the hotel staff will shrug. Some will insist things have been this way for as long as they've been working there. Others will state that, like their wonderful Queen, the hotel will always know what's needed for any occasion and make suitable preparations.
ARCADE
9/11 - 9/23
The arcade, if possible, seems even larger than the nightclub that once stood in its place. There are rows of pinball, action games, shooting games, driving games. An entire room of air hockey, and another of dancing games. Clusters of skee-ball, whack-a-mole, and claw machines. The floors seem to be eternally sticky with spilled soda, and the smell of pizza and sugar permeates the air. No matter how many patrons are within sight, the sound of laughter and excited shrieking somehow seems to echo throughout the arcade.
Token dispensers are scattered amongst the games. Hotel staff will be stationed at the snack bar and the prize counter, ready to hand out tokens or trade tickets won from the games for small prizes.
Occasionally, one of the games will spark and short out. If asked, hotel staff will say it's out of order and put up a sign proclaiming it so. They don't seem all that concerned about fixing it. Soon enough, it will seem to fix itself and switch back on. It will still spark every so often, and something about the music will seem off. Anyone who decides to play one of these games anyway will find themselves feeling slightly dizzy. Is the arcade spinning around them, or is that just them?
When the spinning stops, they will no longer be where they were before. They will find themselves in the middle of the game they had previously been playing, regardless of what it was. Welcome to the other side of the arcade — where the game play is more realistic than ever! Hopefully they had a partner brought in with them, or someone else comes along to try to play who can help them win the game to get back out.

MOVIE NIGHT
9/11 - 9/23
The entrance to the movie theater is lined with concession stands. Snacks and drinks of every kind can be picked up here before going into one of the theater's two auditoriums. Films will be playing round the clock in both, a different one on each screen. Oysters may find the same movies they would have seen on their own world, movies one might find on modern day Earth, or even movies about old folktales or traditional stories that might have been told where they were from. The only thing that will not be showing is any version of Alice in Wonderland, or any story set in Wonderland itself.
At times, particular showings may be billed as interactive. These will be of all genres: musicals, adventures, mysteries, romance, comedies, even horror. Oysters who attend these will be encouraged to dress up, and will even be shown to a dressing room with a selection of suitable clothes. It will only be after they've been seated and the film starts that what is meant by interactive will become clear.
The musicals will have sing alongs, with people from the audience being pulled up to participate in the dance numbers. The adventures and mysteries will have characters on the screen turn to the audience as though they are part of the story, inviting them along in the investigation or interrogating them as a suspect. Protagonists and antagonists alike will walk off the screen of horror movies, seeking help from or looking to torment the audience until their story is completed and they are sent back to their film world. Comedies and romances will find those in the audience being pulled up to act out parts of the story — and may find themselves transported into the setting until they do.

DAYCARE AND PLAYGROUND
9/11 - 9/23
The front of the daycare is small, with a place to check in and drop off or pick up kids. This is the only area that Oysters who are not either helping out at the daycare or being dropped off themselves will be able to easily access. Behind this are sectioned off areas for quieter activities, with materials such as books, art supplies, toys, etc. There's a small kitchen that will be off limits to the kids, and an area for snack time and nap time. Hotel staff are very present and interactive in these areas — reading to children, making crafts with them, telling stories, fixing snacks. Some will be taking a quiet break for themselves in the kitchen, and may be willing to talk to Oysters helping out at the daycare.
The back of the daycare is an expansive indoor playground. Here, the children are mostly left to their own devices. There are some hotel staff out there to keep an eye on the children as they play, but they tend to cluster together for conversation. Oysters helping out at the daycare will be somewhat warily included in this if they approach. These hotel staff will mostly be dismissive of any children coming to them unless they are injured or crying. There are multiple parts of the playground that can be used to sneak in and out to the hotel area at large, if one is looking carefully! Any children who are not supposed to be there have a low risk of being caught unless they draw attention to themselves or try to enter the other area of the daycare.
The other children in the daycare fall mostly between the ages of 6-11, with three or four outliers who appear to be toddlers or in the 12-13 age range. Astute Oysters likely to observe the behavior of the children will notice that there are clear social groups among them, as though they have known each other long enough to have friends they're accustomed to playing with. There are some who seem friendly and popular, some who seem to keep to themselves, some who seem to have good relationships with the hotel staff and others who seem determined to cause trouble, those who are bullies and those who are picked on. Their willingness to play with or answer questions from Oyster children or adults is equally as varied.
There will be a posted list of Oysters banned from helping out at the daycare. It will not be easily seen from the front of the daycare, but hotel staff will identify who is on it if asked. It will include the below names:
Characters on this list who have been de-aged will also find that hotel staff are reluctant to accept them into the daycare. They will be allowed only if someone not on the list vouches for them, and otherwise will have to sneak in through the playground.

"All right, all right." He's just going to let him and don't fight him as he sits upright. He strips off his robes and tunic to reveal his back with freshly open wounds crisscrossing his back as the result of being lashed by the whip, however, the blood starts to clot and congeal as it's trying to heal. No stitching, just need bandaging and washed over with salve and apply with medicine.
"Wei Ying, I told you. I broke the rules back in the sect. Instead of the paddle, it's the whip. It's the seniors I fought against."
no subject
He helps Lan Zhan out of the tunic, wincing at the damages. He's quick to start patting at it with the nearest scrap of cloth, just to stop any additional bleeding.
"Lan Zhan, I'll gladly be shameless all you want later, but now I just want to make sure you don't drop dead on this couch, if that's all right with you?" he shakes his head, "I need to clean this out first, it's going to sting. Brace yourself, okay?"
As for the rest, he's fuming so much he can barely contain it. This cruelty was done by his own sect members?! What rule could Lan Wangji have broken to earn something this horrible? Even when Yu Furen struck him with Zidian it didn't look so wretched.
no subject
"I'm not going to drop dead, Wei Ying. I just feel very tired." He closes his eyes as he Wei Ying tends to him, nursing his wounds. He braces himself, hissing in pain as Wei Ying cleans him up until it looks like he doesn't bleed so much.
"Wei Ying, your hands." Seeing his own blood on his hands. "I'm sorry." After a while, after Wei Ying takes care of him. "...Thank you."
no subject
He wasn't sad, he was angry. What could Lan Zhan possibly have done to merit this sort of brutal punishment? The last time he'd talked to Lan Zhan, well. It'd been messy in a different way, first kisses stolen in the dark, and he can feel a cold stab of worry hit him at the thought. Is this... because of him? Is this why Lan Zhan was so scared to say anything?
"They're fine," he says absently, wiping any lingering blood on his robes without a second thought. They're dark, and stains are the last thing he's worried about.
If they couldn't accept Lan Zhan, treated him so miserably like this, well- well why couldn't they run off? Become rogue cultivators, not be bound by some stupid set of rules?
He finishes with the salve and starts applying fresh bandages. At least there are several rolls of gauze here, and he's sure he'll use every last one. Wei Wuxian starts to breathe a little easier once he's started wrapping things up, and doesn't have to stare down those angry wounds.
"Let me help you to your room," he insists, offering to carry him, and if he won't climb on Wei Wuxian's back, at least he can offer his shoulder.

He is simply loyal by default, but perhaps, he has grown to love Wei Ying in his everything, that he abandon his tradition to defend his honor, even in his worst moments. He sat still as Wei Ying attends to him and dressed up his wounds. More than anything his care for him is a balm to his pain.
"I can walk. You don't have to help. But all right..." But he decides to take him up on that and walk side by side to him through the lobby and toward the elevator that will take them up to the floor of his room.
no subject
"I will, I will," he promises, "once you lay down, I'll wash up."
He's somewhat relieved when Lan Zhan starts to lean on him, and he guides him into the elevator. Lan Zhan keeps asking him not to help, more worried about blood on his hands, and what, inconveniencing him by getting him to his room? Does Lan Zhan not want him to be here?
Wei Wuxian had been deliriously happy to hear that Lan Zhan liked him, but he knew it was all just a temporary little indulgence. Lan Zhan had his sect to think about, he was the second son in one of the most prominent cultivation families. And Wei Wuxian was... just the son of a servant. If them both being men wasn't problem enough, his station was just as heavy a strike against him.
It's impossible not to let himself wonder what would garner such harsh punishment from the Lan sect. What would rule-abiding Lan Wangji ever do that could be bad enough to warrant this? The clues were piling up; Lan Zhan was vague about the rule he'd broken, he didn't want Wei Wuxian's help, he was even surprised to see him. He couldn't help thinking they were all related somehow, and that these injuries were something to do with a moment of teenage weakness.
He steps off the elevator, guiding Lan Zhan toward the room he remembered from before. The one Lan Zhan had pulled him to, where they'd...
"It's this way, right?"
no subject
"Wei Ying, thank you." He is reluctant to ask for help, but for now, he has to surrender and simply accept it. He doesn't want to inconvenience him with his burden.
The elevator rose, stopped, and he hopped off to head toward to his room of cloud recess. He walks slowly down the hall with his key card, he opens the door.
"Mn. Come in. We can make tea and then I can rest." The room looks exactly like his jingshi in aesthetics, and once they entered, closed the door, Lan Wangji hobbles to his bed and curls up on the bed, exhausted mentally and physically from the day.
"Wei Ying, you come back." He managed to say, his eyes never leaving him.
no subject
He helps Lan Zhan to the bed and only just remembers that he promised to clean himself up once he got Lan Zhan situated. He tidies up in the bathroom, anger still bubbling under his skin as he watches Lan Zhan's blood swirl down the drain.
Wei Wuxian doesn't waste time, and returns to kneel beside Lan Zhan's bed, worry still obvious in his features. He seeks for his hand, squeezing it gently in an attempt at comfort.
"Came back? Lan Zhan..." he pauses uncertain how to ask, but unable to keep back his worry, "are these injuries... it is because of me?"
no subject
"Wei Ying..? You were gone." He whispered. "I searched for you at the burial mounds. You...will not come back, I know. So I returned back home to Cloud Recesses to accept my punishment for what I did to the seniors."
His eyes on him. "It's because it's for you. To fight for you is my greatest honor even if I have shamed my clan and ancestors."
no subject
He likes Lan Zhan. In a way he doesn't think he's ever liked anyone else. But that day at the movie theater, they were just... messing around, it wasn't... it wasn't something Lan Zhan should be punished for, or fight his own clan members. His anger simmers and shifts inward, his expression wooden as he struggles to process it all.
"I'm not... I'm not gone, I've been here," he says softly. The image of those bloody wounds he'd dressed returns, taking on a new and terrible darkness in his memory. It was just supposed to be a little bit of fun. Kissing had been nice, but Lan Zhan would get over his crush, he was from a noble family, had responsibilities within his sect, obligations that didn't allow for someone like Wei Wuxian. Lan Zhan would marry a nice girl, have a family, and forget about the foolish things they'd done as teenagers. That was how it was supposed to be. Not like this.
"Lan Zhan, I- Why would you..." he shakes his head, eyes wide with worry.
no subject
For now, Lan Wangji looks at him, solemn and grave, with the heavyweight of his guilt and his sins leaving it's a mark on his back. Wei Wuxian's confusion and unable to explain what he does and doesn't understand the situation isn't helping.
All of those are lofty ideas. At this point, Lan Wangji is too far gone that he is indifferent. There's only one person he truly wanted, and he will never forget.
Closing his eyes, he needs to rest so lay rested on the bed. "Because I'm full of regret, Wei Ying. I never wanted to leave your side. Punishment is more preferable than seeing you suffer from your mistakes."
no subject
"Lan Zhan, I never meant... If I'd known... I..." he finds himself fumbling for words. Why was Lan Zhan the one punished for the things Wei Wuxian had done?
"If my mistakes did this to you," he shakes his head, voice growing shaky as tears start to fill his eyes, "I deserve to suffer."
no subject
"Wei Ying, it's all right. Please, do not worry. It wasn't your fault. You're...you're overwhelmed by the resentment energy and the spirits, so your body couldn't handle it. Too much of that darkness consumed you. I was trying to save you from the suffering, but my strength isn't enough."
He reaches out and holds his hand. "Wei Ying, please. I wanted nothing more than to take you back to Gusu with me to heal you, but you didn't want to go. More than anything, I wanted to try to save you, but my clan reminds me how selfish of me that was. So for my selfish, I was punished for it, for breaking the rules and following what my heart tells me to do."
no subject
Wei Wuxian might be a trouble-maker, but he really did want to be a cultivator so he could fight injustices and save people, to live without regrets, not bring them upon others. So to see Lan Wangji so brutally beaten and bloodied and to hear it was because of his mistakes is almost too much to bear.
Wei Wuxian takes Lan Zhan's hand, kneeling beside his bed and rests his head on the edge of the mattress, feeling cold down to his core. He doesn't know what to say, so he sits quietly, and holds his hand, thumb brushing gently back and forth over it.
no subject
He appreciates the gesture, so he'll relax into it, let Wei Ying touches his hand, trying to calm and soothe. At first, he stares at the ceiling, at the space, though his gesture sow a seed of doubt, wondering why Wei Ying care so much for him.
Then turning his head to look at him, his gold eyes full of want and yearning, with obvious pain in his voice, pleading. "Wei Ying, come back to Gusu with me." He repeats. "I want you back."
But his plea will be a hopeless one, as he has completely believed he is lost to him forever. So the Wei Ying that is caring for him, stroking his hand...he's real and yet a dream, but he kept on saying the words anyway. Come back to Gusu with me. He whispers, wondering if he could hear him.
